What is a physical impairment?

Back, knee, and shoulder injuries are the most common disabilities among those who perform
heavy labor. An illness like diabetes or congestive heart failure can also qualify as a disabling
condition. The Social Security Administration will consider muskuloskeletal impairments, neurological
impairments, cardiovascular impairments, respiratory disorders, digestive disorders, and immune
                                    disorders.

Having a condition that meets the Listings criteria will qualify you for disability benefits. You can also
be awarded disability benefits without satisfying the Listings requirements for a specific disability by
proving that your medically recognizable condition is severe enough to prevent you from working.
